Judging by his success over the years, I'd say the book is a real ripper! Look at the price! Get one and give us a review. We'll love you for it.

Re/ Regurgitated info:  That's exactly why I started writing in the first place!  Never forget how thrilled I was to find "GoldenOlde" 'till I realized that he never actually says much of anything!

JP, my impression is that he wrote this book to be different than the rest.

When underwater detecting first started getting popular, I could never have afforded the one machine I wanted - the Garrett that I now own. Instead of moaning about it, I bought Charles Garrett's booklet on underwater detecting and took one of my non automatic Groundhogs, removed the guts and put it inside of one of those waterproof flashlights after I removed the guts from that. I replaced the lens with a flat piece of thick Plexiglass. I made some grease seals to allow tuning by an extension shaft and waterproofed the coil wire as it left the body of the light case.

I used it snorkeling the first time out. I found an even dozen gold rings and tons of other metals, coins, silver rings and jewelry. I then built a hookah for two and started diving with a friend. We dove in the Portsmouth area, sharing the detector, in a river area that was used for 200 plus years as a swimming beach. In the first hour of diving, we probably didn't even need the detector because we removed more than 200 rings, coins and jewelry items. In two weeks time, we each had enough to buy our underwater machines. Those were amazing days and I'd love to relive them just for the joy of finding all that stuff.

Would I have liked Clive's book back then? You bet! I made mistakes and probably left more behind than I got. It's too late to go back there now because that beach has been cleared out by dredging and condominiums with yacht moorings took its place. The dredgings? Dumped at sea like most of the dredgings on the east coast. Somewhere out there is a wonderful concentration of gold and silver. Some future diver will wonder where it came from. But we'll know.

Thank you for all of that.

I will put the book on my list.

I have spent the last few hours just looking at shallow water threads on the site and I have read a lot of good things you had to say as will.

Thanks again,

JP

Although I have not read this particular book, I do own and have read other books that Clive has written and have found them to be good reads that are both interesting as well as informative.  I'm sure that this book would be no different in the fact that it would be interesting as well as informative to read.
