Hello everyone

Is there any one that can help me with the NI Multisim simulator? I want to simulate a colpitts oscillator and a receiver but I'm not having any joy.

All the best
Xavier

Is there some reason to use a Colpitts? Come on. You can tell me. I'm your friend.

Want some candy?

Grin Grin GD you make me laugh thanks for the link, the only reason why I'm using the colpitts is because I like that oscillator and it's stable enough for what I want to do. (I'm using it in my two box detector)

Stable? It's a mixer for modulation and the input causes it to modulate as FM. I suppose if you tie the modulation input to a level you'd be all right but if you want stability, nothing is better than a crystal oscillator and, they're cheap. One part. Nothing else needed.

Get one of those and use a digital frequency divider (4000 or 74LS) series to bring it to your needs. Rock stable. Or, don't buy one. Send me your postal address and I send you a couple. The usual charges will apply.

Ha yes seen them before just never thought of using one yet. For now I'll stick with my colpitts, see how the machine performs then I may just redesign it, hell got nothing better to do with my time any way. LOL

Yea.... Ok.... Go ahead and use the Colpitts. We can't change your mind anyhow.  Next thing GD will want you to get is a rubidium reference standard, 42 pounds of TTL chips, maybe a lighthouse and 2 klystrons so you can get a hacked up fake sinusoidal waveform full of harmonics, ringing and noise...... Whoops ... time for another brewsky...... just kidding. Exhausted  Wink

I don't know what it is that you've been taking but it sure has a good effect on you  Grin That oscillator that GD mentioned is something that I want to start playing around with in the very near future, so it has NOT been excluded from my designs.

They now have some neat packages for oscillators. You can get whole shooting match on a chip. TCXO, PLL, programmable dividers..... Last time I build a synthesizer (TTL days) I had about 15 ICs just to get a PLL wave at 50Mhz. Now all ya just add is Vcc, gnd, variable DC VCO control, and output a beautiful PLL sine (almost) wave with super accuracy. I'm sure GD can suggest a few.
