I am looking for schmetics for a Compas AU52, and a manual.
I am considering modifying it for a meter, also.
Has anyone had experience doing this and can give recomendations?

Hello mdiede57 . Welcome to Thunting.com !!! We might be able to find the owners manual for both the Compass AU52 and the Bounty Hunter De280 . But finding the schematics will be very , very hard . Those two schematics I have not seen in the last 10 years that I have been collecting schematics . I am sure a Meter Mod. can be done . Compass is out of business and a repair Technician that worked for the old compass company is now in Texas . I will do some research and also maybe another Forum member here knows more about these two machines and will answer your questions . Keep checking back to this Forum Everyday !!!   Best Regards........Eugene

If you need pictures of the circuit board, parts, I can open them and photograph them for someone who may want that.
It's been years since I was metal detecting, and when it cools down a bit, I want to go back out again.
But, I would like to get back into the electronics again, maybe even build something that might be fun.

Hello mdiede57 . I know exactly what you are talking about !!! It is hot here in the desert where I am right now , 108 today . So metal detecting here must be done before 9:00 am in the morning !! I did some research and found two links for manuals and or the possible schematics . The first link is for Compass and the second is for Bounty Hunter ...There will be a small charge for each metal detector manual and a small charge "if" they release a schematic , but you can send an email question to each link if you like . Or you can carefully take apart each one and show a clear[sharp] photo of each of the detectors PCB circuit board and insides of control housing. May I ask what is wrong with the Bounty Hunter ? Let us know , and thanks for Joining / posting on this Great Forum....Best Regards.....Eugene

As for what may be wrong, there may not be anything wrong with them.
I have had both of these for 15 years or more, they were used when I got them.
I dug both of them out Sunday, and cleaned the heavy dirt from the casings.
On the Compas, the coil housing is cracked, and broken.
It's a concentric coil, I supose both do work, but I would need to test them.
I have had an interest in electronics since high school, used to work on CB radios, and just enjoy tinkering at times.
Even tho the coil caseing is cracked,  I believe it still works fine.

If you test the Compass and it works, you can seal the coil with clear or white epoxy to keep it from further damage. Fill in the cracks and use a disposable brush to paint the epoxy over the area.

Thanks.  As mentioned, these have been sitting for YEARS.
I even have a 12" coil for the Bounty Hunter De280 Outlaw.

You may want to try to find a schematic for the 840 also.  That schematic should be very close to the DE 280.

Here is a copy I have for the 840 schematic

Golddigger, you think you can construct the power supply, to give direction as to which connections would go to what on the 840 schematic? I dont see which connections would connect where. I am getting +9v, +5.802v, -9v and 583.mv. ( i'm working in Multisim) and not sure the transistors are accutate, as I cant find the correct ones in the library. I was attempting to draw out the schematic, and produce circuit board, which is another frustration i see in multisim, to create a circuit board. and ideas,  or help you can offer would be great.
