Dug my little old soldering "station" out and fired it up... no fire. Thus it is time throw that old, outdated, piece of s**t away! Something I should have done long ago when I discovered I could no longer find tips. So, I am wondering what some of the builders around here are using or recommending. I like the stations.

Thanks

Sean

I saw some cool stations on fleabay in the $80 range that were digital and had a heat gun. Mine was the old Radio Shack with 2 heat settings... if I looked harder I could find tips, but that would mean I don't get a new iron. I thought it would be a nice addition to my work bench.

Cheers

Sean

Shocked 80 bucks that sounds like a lot to me I'm sure that you can get a good station for under 50 bucks

Yea! Me too!

I don't pay more the $20.00 for a Iron .

If if's too hot, just don't stay on the Item so long.

Heat, Melt, Flow, Off!  123 done.

Tip size is more important to me.

I have two irons.   One 15 watts, other 35.

I have a 12 DC 25WATT That I use on C-mos and other stuff .

Digital with a heat gun is a great buy for $80.00. Don't listen to the amateurs. Just kidding guys!

The heat gun is for shrinking tubing onto wires and connectors so the station was probably designed to be used in a manufacturing facility. This is very useful for you to repair or build coil wire connectors. It's also used for de-soldering and repairs. Removing surface mount items or making the solder flow on ICs is also useful for removing them without damage using the heat gun. I'd not hesitate for a second to snap up that bargain.

You all have more funds then I do!

I can have two Weller's and a heat gun for less then 30.00.

The 12dc Iron I have I obtained in the UK years ago and it still cooks.

4 extra tips, still working on the original.

My coffee table is my lab.

I have a "work shop"... aka my one bedroom apartment. Actually it is just a huge desk with everthing for building custom fly rods to tying flies and everything (almost everything) I need to tinker. It is also set up for guitar repairs. I work between 48 and 72 hours a week and try to keep very few bills just so I can afford to get "the good stuff"... also I'm not married, which seems to make a huge difference.

Cheers

Sean
