You can buy a good machine if you go to garage sales,or look in craigs list, I bought a top dollar whites that didnt for $20.00--sent it back to Whites and had it repaired for $40.00+ shipping its like a brand new one now----since I bought the Whites I have collected 6 more very good units all for less than $100 ! People buy these things  pay good money and then decide metal detecting is not for them,in the closet they go then into their garage sale at ridicules prices, I find more treasure at garage sales than with my detector--but I like to do both---after all treasure is treasure no mater where you find it

The cheapest metal detector I have ever seen ?     I used to sell them !   Shocked

20 years ago I was a Manager for Tandy/Radio Shack UK, and their stuff is garbage, and cheap tat.

That Company went 'bust' over 15 years ago here in the UK.

Great hint!!! The idea of buying a non-functioning detector and sending it back to the manufacturer had not crossed my mind!!!
