poseidon, That's deep! Now when I was a newbie detectorist with my spanking new ACE 250 I discovered the sad fact that iron junk interfered with detecting coins. When I discovered it I did a test placing a 16 penny nail half inch from a penny and found that there was no penny signal. The rule seemed to be the machine responded to the larger object. I got on this board and asked where I could find a machine that actually screened out he iron not just turned the audio off like the ACE. "The answer I got was that all machines do that more or less get used to it" I lived with that until I got my Fisher 75 which advertises see through capability. Needless to say my  finds have increased radically since then. It isn't unusual to dig out a coin and 2 or 3 nails out of the same hole. The wrench on top of the ring is most impressive. I have a 7/16 end wrench and I'm going to give it a try.

The further you keep the wrench from the coil the better it works, if you put the ring there and hold the coil closer
it becomes erratic at seeing the ring

Well I just done that test using a 1/2" wrench and my machine does it easy, so you need to set your Disc right on the edge
so it just knocks out the wrench then put the ring on top and it will see it, on my machine set the Disc @2.7 and My normal
setting is between 2.5 and 3.0 most of the time i set it at 2.9

Thanks gambol1,

That's Deep!.....lol, I guess that's a pretty positive response & I appreciate it.

Yeah I think it is, for a tossed together Home brew machine that knocks out the larger mass Stainless Steel or Iron item sitting on top and picks out the small VLF gold signal underneath, on top or sideways. (These things impress me on name brand quality machines and especially with home brew machines)

I'd really love to build a homemade machine that's multi tri-frequency (low, med & Hi) with super discrimination and alternating variable ground balance like Auto grab, that is equally at home on the beach as it is on the grass, and that can even knock out Aluminum Foil crash sites, and still see the Silver & Gold.

I catch your drift and it makes sense!  Great

Jim

I agree RidgeRunner,

I wish I had a machine as advanced as the MXT & the Tesoro's, so it's good knowing that I'll have some great abilities when I step-up into the modern world of detectors.

Thanks for that information too!

Cheers mate,  Smiley

My MXTs will do that I just tried the same tests, and the hardest test for a machine is when you have the coin at 6 o'clock
to the nail and sweep over it with a DD coil they hate that test ,

And outback is right the Tesoro's will do it also because that was the first machine I ever saw do that.

Jim if you make the detector not see the Iron and then put something else there you are increasing the mass
so then it starts to pick stuff up again, that was a trick they used to sell detector over here in the 90s, and that machine
must be running between 6.5khz and 7.5khz because that is the same coil that is on the Whites Eagle II SL 90

Hi Karl,

Thanks for the positive note, I'm glad it sparked a little bit of interaction and chatter.

The video from you tube is not telling us the truth !! Put the nail on top of the coin . What is really inside the control box , a kit or a Whites circuit board ??

and the control knobs look so very similar to OEM whites!

Then add in the use of the Whites Coil, and it makes for some good interesting food for thought, of just what is inside this machine?

Thanks,  Great
Jim
