GPS Metal Detector is an electronic device used to detect buried metallic materials in the ground assisted or used with the benefits of GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking. With a GPS featured metal detector one can systematically zero in and track one's positions in your search for: coins, gold, landmines, cables, pipes, underground storage tanks and piping.
A GPS Metal Detector consists of an oscillator producing an alternating current that passes through a coil producing an alternating magnetic field. In addition to the above features, GPS Metal Detectors use electromagnetic induction to detect metal.

In other words, it is a metal detector with GPS added to it, NOT a run of the mill handheld GPS like you would buy from Garmin.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
