Yeh my mobile phones been drivin me Crazy for about that long  Grin.
Dug out the old AV sender/receiver from the shed.
Trans has an internal wire antenna about 12 cm approx wavelenght at 2.5Ghz.
Not sure of method of modulation for these things,
might be able to use some kind of signal strenght meter to measure dip?

Well Bludger, just keep thinking. I'm still thinking, looking, drawing, and searching. GD really got my old cogs to turn on this one!

So..... I thott! You say, 10 years ago you did not even own a cell phone!

I have news for you.... I STILL do not own a cell phone (I have too many computers, maybe, and they keep me too poor.) I have considered getting a card type, prepaid, but they don,t have bag phones since all phones went digital.

That is OK, I do not have idiot sales people calling me, and I only wanted a bag phone when I went to the bush.... satellite phones are too expensive, for each call, but the lease times are good.

Here in the Philippines everyone has a cell phone! The other day I was almost sure I saw a dog texting  Shocked

My cell phone has a very good camera and I use the camera 10 times more than the texting feature and I almost NEVER call... too darned expensive! Shocked

I don't hate my cell phone as long as it's quiet, especially at night while I'm sleeping. Angry

I'm not sold on the idea but I am still excited about the possibility of a microwave frequency detector. It just seems "do-able". Kiss

Remember something here, Ken. Microwaves are absorbed by water. That's why microwave ovens cook food and don't heat up paper plates. Unless they get wet.

You have a point but we're not dealing with high power (unless we want deep penetration) Wet soil would be a no-no. But in dry conditions it sure would make finding rings a lot easier!

I have a *yehbut* for that one: yes water (rain) does absorb radio frequencies and radar started out at 11 meters, went to about 2 meters and kept climbing..... the higher the frequency the more the absorption, hopefully at the frequencies we want to use, it will not be too serious. Microwave ovens, when they first came out, in the US, were called RADAR ovens, and did not work at as high a frequency as they do now which is around 28 gHz, I believe. The waterhole is a bit lower in frequency, that is the resonant frequency of H2O, that Radio astronomers like.

Some astronomers believe that if interstellar signals will be detected, it will be close to the waterhole frequency. Now was that BFO or UFO?  Shocked

Actually, I was thinking a couple pieces of aluminum vent pipe... but a 1/4 wave antenna, at 1.7 gigaHertz, is about 17 inches long! At 3.5 gigaHertz, is near to 8.4 inches... still too big! Maybe cut the pipe length wise, for a reflector.

Use a rubber ducky made for 2.55 gHz?
