Mike it all depends on what and where you are going to use it most. Plus how much you want to spend.

For a good mid priced detector check out the Garrett 350 and the Tesoro line

There is no best detector I use 5 or 6 different one's depends on what, where and when I am hunting

If only there was a single model that was the absolute best. It's a treasure hunter's dream, mate.

I am new to this. So, if I am wrong please let me know. I am not going to sell any name brand, I would like to but won't at this time.  I believe that when a person reaches a certain dollar amount spent on a machine it no longer comes down to the machine, it is the machine operator that makes GOOD, BETTER, BEST.

Hi Mike.........I'm currently using the Minelab SE PRO, it's been a great detector so far and has great depth and works very well in iron infested areas. It does take some effort to learn the detector, once you do it produces great results. I've owned mine for about 14 months with no problems, also I'm not connected to Minelab or any of it's dealers. There are sites on the web that have comparative views on various detectors. Hope this helps you some.

Im new and have read many reviews, watched many videos, and come to the conclusion that I already have a good detector, but want more. I would love a pinpointer and no motion mode. I would love one with a fisher controls, and something that I could look for gold nuggets with, and still coin shoot. It would have to accept more coils. I dont know who was in the park I searched yesterday, but I was digging his holes all day and pulling out coin. Seems he couldnt find anything in his holes..........get a detetcor you can detect with. I absolutely love the new machines comming out, but keep hearing two machihes being repeated online, the mxt, and goldbug. Hope this helps. HH

Trashdigger, you've got it nailed.   Few, but the most serious, ever manage to produce up to the limits of their detector---which isn't to say that a most people won't see a benefit by upgrading to a more expensive, higher grade model....just that they'd probably see at least as big of an improvement if they took the time to work on their technique.

But more to the point, as Seldom and Goldigger point out, there is NO best detector just as there is no best automobile, no best camera, or no best pie.   Once you get past a few features and capabilities a whole lot of what makes best is purely subjective and/or how the thing does or does not work with your unique set of circumstances.

You lie. Key Lime Pie is the absolute best pie ever invented.

I'm going to go and cuddle my bride. If I'm really good to her, she'll make me one.
