Never had so much deep silver and gold  as with Xp Deus 3.X and the big coil..
Xp deus is really good on coins and rings wich is standing on their egde. i walk behind a e-track and a xterra705
at the dry beach digging what they missed. Detecting
Found with my deus ca ++40 silver and 4 gold rings this season metal seperation is super fast.. have found more silver, coins and gold  this summer than i did on 25 years with other well known brands

And my home built Delta Pulse has worked good from day 1.....using a orginal detectorpro headhunter pulse coil on my DP

Never heard of a Upex 728???  I don't think you can name a best detector.  Some are better at some things than others.  I've heard of people following top of the line machines with beginner level ones and finding things the big boys missed.  No detector is best for every situation and if you have a detector with many settings you need to know how to set it for the site and type of hunting you wish to do.  Knowing the detector and the ground you are hunting will determine your success more than the name on the side of your detector.

There is one more very critical factor.
I call it “If your name is on it you will find it factor "
of course if you know how and you are using a well proven detector it helps.
Allot.

What is the "If your name is on it you will find it" factor?  That's a new one to me.  Please explain.

It really depends on what you want to do. First, I might would look at finding a different size coil that would work with your current detector for what you wanted to accomplish. For instance, if you wanted to do more relic hunting than coin detecting, I would buy a larger coil for the detector that I already own. This might be a less expensive alternative.

After that, you would look more at the "type" of detector then from there brand. Things around the beach and in the water you would be looking at PI (pulse induction). For gold nugget hunting, you would want something with a small elliptical coil and a high transmit frequency (i.e. greater than 12 KHz). For unabashed deep relic hunting, something that has a big coil and a low frequency. If I was doing coin shooting, I would look at something that had different size coils available and very good ergonomics, and long battery life. Maybe "programmable." So,in my opinion, it makes more sense to have a less expensive detector for a specific activity rather than a single more expensive "do it all" detector. Also, I have a hard time justifying detectors that are more than $1500. I think the budget really should be $600 (strongly), definitely not more than $1200. I really think it is diminishing returns after this and works to prove my point that it is better to have different detectors for different purposes. I know these companies have a business to maintain, but it has me wondering about the economics for the hobbyist. But I digress.

Also, while it is fun to buy new, I think there are a number of good used ones that are available. For those, I'd try to stay with brand recognition over something from China that might take a lot of time to service - if you can find service for it. And they do invariably need service for one reason or another. Be sure to understand the warranties, some are better than others. Teknetics has a five year warranty which beats other's two years. People love Tesero for their lifetime warranty, however their machines don't have larger target ID displays. But to be honest, target ID is mostly over-rated in the detector world anyway.

But, there is more to it than just the detector. The ones that are the most successful I call "the mole people" because they know how to dig, they know the language of the sounds that detector speaks by heart, and they know where to look as if they were clairvoyant. For these types, it really does not matter too much what detector they have, because they are sure to make the most of it and make their own luck!

Back in the 70's the  $50.00  BFO was the machine that worked for me.   Sorry I ever sold it.
