Help identifying piece of jacket

(1/1)

RelicRaiser:
Today was my first day of really searching with a purpose with my metal detector.  I live in an area where there was a Revolutionary War Prison Camp so I went out today looking for relics form the Revoulutionary War.  lol  You guys make it look so easy!  Anyway, I'm basically bushwacking through the woods along a creek with my detector, unearthing amazing specimens of barbed wire, tin pie pans, and nails, when mid-dig, I look over slightly from my mound of dirt and voila, a tattered piece of fabric, half buried in the ground, sort of tangled up in a scrubby tree.  I pulled it gently out of the ground with my mind racing.  Please let it be something old- very old!  It's hard to tell what color it is as it is almost entirely covered in moss.  It seems to be a part of the collar.  There are several holes for buttons but unfortunately none are still attached.  Is there any way that this can be dated or identified?  Is it even possible that this could be anything other than a 20 year-old piece of Sears and Roebuck peacoat?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Waiting with baited breath!!
