WWII Handgrenade found recently

(1/2) > >>

Christian:
This is a WWII hadngrenade which has been found recently by a German friend. I'm notsure if it was a German or US model. I would vote for USmodel?

It has been destroyed by the authorities according to the law.

In some areas in Germany you can still run accorss these kind of spoils of war.

Regards,

Christian

Christian . It is absolutely no German handgrenate . I remember the German granates quite well . While in battle the German soldier tucked their grenates into their boots . Yes sir I remember !    Cornelius

Cornelius:
Christian . In order to understand why I remember I have to tell you something that may sounds strange to you . First of all the German soldiers we met in the 2nd WW were regular guys that had to do their job . My family had some good friends amongst them . We did not look upon them as soldiers but as lonely teen agers that had to fight in a strange country for a strange cause  .  Cornelius

Christian:
Hello Cornelius,

well, my grandfather was in the communist party by then - I think he was the only communist in town - and my grandmother had been departed from France to Germany where they met each other.

So I am very happy that we have not had any Nazis in our family. However nowadays it is still a very difficult and controversal affair in German society. E.g. if you were to sell relics from this periode of time on a feal market (= in public) and not disgusing their Symbols (like the Swastika) you will receive a high penalty. Therefore on my German metal detecting site one has to mask any signs related to Nazi Germany on medals, relics etc. when posting them.

Best wishes,

Christian

Cornelius:
Christian . You would be amazed how few of these regular soldiers were Nazi's . They had no choice but to do their job as the government told them to do .  We considered them just as we considered ourselves  , just men walking on the earth for a short time , making the best of it and keeping our powder dry .    Cornelius
