I wonder if any of our members has used Minelabs CTX 3030. Being water proof / resistant it looks interesting for beach hunting, but how well does it really perform in salt water? Or is just a heavier and more expensive eTrac?

Your two cents are most welcome.

Regards,

Christian

Its a good machine from what I have read but at nearly twice the cost as the ETrac I don't think they have done enough to warrant the Price and ever since Minelab got into BBS and FBS their machines a painfully slow and in Europe we have sites with over 2000 years of human junk to search through and minelabs can be challenging, I wish they had never stopped making the Muskateer Advantage or even better the Relic Hawk, That looked like the GPX series but it was a VLF, A thing of Beauty.

The CTX is excellent in salt water - change the O-rings and it's good for shallow diving too. If you need to hunt wet salt sands or dry sand or just about anywhere for anything ... it's able to do it. It's only weakness is small, thin, poor conductors that may not register or do so very weakly. For micro-jewelry and weak conductors you should look for a high freq detector, but otherwise it is good enough. It may be slightly heavy but I can use it for 6-8 hours without too much trouble. If you are weak or have medical issues it may not be the best choice. It's deep with relatively better sensitivity as the soil becomes more mineralized than most other detectors. There are deeper detector in moderate soil but even so it is more than adequate for most hunting needs. It isn't particularly hard to understand or use ... set it up once and it becomes a turn on and go detector. I rarely make changes after I set all the patterns I use, they're easy to change if needed though, but if it works why mess with it. The CTX is expensive so find a good used one.
