I was a manufacturing Engineer for Sprague Electric back in the 80's. When they went to Korea with their manufacturing they got a short boost in profits. Until the Koreans figured out they could make the same product. Then the quality and profit went to hell...We gave it away.

I don't think I'd be worried about the quality of a genuine Minelabs product. Plexus is an American company; their QC should be stringent, going by the reputation of other American companies manufacturing electronics in Penang, Malaysia.

The sad fact is that Minelab wouldn't have these problems if they sold their product at a more reasonable price. It's on thing to sell at a profit and another to sell at an extreme profit. They're margins were high enough when they were built in Australia. The wanted to improve their margins and went offshore. That was the killing point of it all.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
