I line in NY,the soil is rocky,I have the explorer 11,what settings do I use,looking for coins,or jewerly?

I'D LET THEM FACTORY SETTINGS WORK THEIR MAGIC.

don't know what your lookin for tho~ if coinsnsuch...

you could play around with the sens. maybe even turn it up full blast depending on how many inches of rock your lookin at

if you programmed it and can't get back to factory just hold power in for 4-6 sec.

Don't have a clue what your ground is like. Put the machine on auto and it will tell you what it likes. After that raise the sens. till it starts falsing on you, then back it off.

Go to Jim Vokey's detector page. He is back East and I'm sure he can set you up with others who run an Explorer in your specific area. Also, check out the 'Find'a Forums'. They have a couple specific Explorer pages(instructional and finds). They will cut your learning curve in half.

It's hard to give instructions without knowing what ground you are working with. You can not go wrong with Andy Sabitch's book on the Explorer. It is readily available at Kellycodetectors.com .
