bought this minelab tooth digger last week from the UK,it cost ?26,went out last night down the local park for a late night dig, first time out with this tooth digger,it had been raining all day yesterday so the ground was nice and soft,as for the digger well say no more look at the distortion after a few hours detecting, bent like a banana,I bought a stainless steel trowl from the garden center last year for ?8 and it is ten times better,so come on minelab stop selling us cheep mild steel tools from china which are not worth the postage costs.

I had one of the tools given to me at a treasure hunting event, when I saw where it was made that was enough for me to know there was no quality steel in it. I've been using a 12 " stainless digging tool made by Gator (KellyCo Co) for a number of years and it is really strong. I also use an old military bayonet cut off some, I cut serrated edges on one side of it, it works well and is very strong.
My favorite digger was made in England, a small bladed stainless shovel. John in Va

Im big into the minelab detectors love my x-terra 705,started with the 305,gerat detectors,Im a fitter welder by trade and use my own made tools, but at that price small and compact (?26) was worth a try, live and learn as they say, great design but crap material (mild steel),have not used it since, its nice and compact and fits nice on my belt but its useless when it comes to digging

The Minelab detectors are great instruments, I have three of them. Like yourself I have experience working with metals, welding, soldering etc.....John in Va.

I've seen this happen a lot. The ML digger is junk. Lesche is the one to own. A little higher but well worth it. They also make right or  left hand models

Mikek, Nice to know. I'll just keep my sheath knife and hand pick which are the two hand tools for the job. Only problem with them is the max depth is about 7 inches. Most of my targets are in this range. Sheath knife with serrated blade for grass when you don't want to make a mess and hand pick for clay, gravel, roots and hard packed soil. when I'm in the woods I use a narrow blade shovel. I'm still searching for the perfect digger. gambol Cool

They might make some great detectors but I agree, their diggers are pure crap. I had my pick of a few different items at a group outing and picked it because my 10 year old digger was on it's last leg. First time out I bent it on some thin tree roots.

Broke down and bought a Lesche and never regretted it since. I didn't know they made them in right or left handed. That explains why I have to cut a plug backwards, I guess I need to get the right hand version haha.
