Go Up Go Down

As most of us are aware the price of the Sovereign Gt went up $200.00 today(25%) and the Excaliber is going up $100.00 next month.
I heard rumers that the price increases are due to closing those models out compleatly or so that Minelab can sell out those models to make room for upgraded models and paving the way for the new price?
Any input would be great.Thanks

It's more likely to do with the Aussie dollar reaching parity with the greenback. And a bit of Minelab opportunism.

It's called INFLATION!  {alt}

I agree, greed, inflation and cheaper made products are the norm but one of minelab's newest detectors is the Safari.Which has more frequencies,a bigger coil, newer technology,Blah, blah, blah. It's basically a Brand New beefed up digital Sovereign Gt and it sells for a houndred dollars less than the outdated Gt?That is why I think something is getting ready to change for the Gt and the Excaliber?

One other point I have is why didn't ''ALL'' Minelab products have some kind of price increase if it was just simple greed and inflation?

Those are their hot products rule one in retail raise prices on your best seller first with slow increase of your other items. 25% is a big increase in my opinion.

Yeah your right on the marketing end but not a smart move in a recession.
I bet Kellyco is loving this.
These guys buy 100's of units at a time for deep wholesale prices and I would bet they had a few in the warehouse when the increase was announced. That's a good free $200 with no questions asked.
If you look around the internet there are a few honest dealers out there selling off the ones that they have left (before the increase) at the old price.

Cost increase isn't a usual method of pricing at the end of a product life cycle so I don't think the Minelab folks are discontinuing those models soon!

Not to ignore the "greed" part, but the cost increase is likely due more to currency exchange changes (Aussie Dollar got stronger against US Dollar) and inflationary increases in cost of production inputs (e.g. materials and labor).

That said a 25% increase is way too large a jump!!

It should be interesting on what Minelab is planning?

A $50.00 increase would have been smart and realistic but $200.00 give me a break.

And why didn't all off their products go up 25% or for that matter even 1%?

Doesn't the cost to manufacture a product or inflation cover all of a companies products?

Pretty much a slap in the face to the people ( us little people ) that helped build their company.

I'm sure that all the manufacturing tools and dies to produce the Sovereign and the Excalibur (which goes up $100.00 in the next 2 weeks ) paid for themselves the first year of production and that plenty of profit has been made as well.

But $200 of inflation,I think not.

Speculation is all we have right now.

Maybe their looking at a 28 Frequency analog unit or a 28 Frequency Excalibur 3?

I personally think 28 frequencies is less effective than 17 (too much going on) so maybe these older units will have a price drop if new ones came out and take their price range?

Also, the Sovereign is pretty much a beach detector mainly used without a meter. And for good reason.

Hitting a good tone sound in a park or yard means digging a really big deep hole and not practical when you dig up a penny.

All Minelabs newer cheap plastic junk models from the Safari Thur the Track cover everywhere else.

So I'm guessing that if anything new comes out for SUMMER from Minelab that it will be geared around beach detecting?

I've been looking a the Sovs and wondered why the disparity in prices from the search engines still showing the old price. I'm keeping my eye out for a used Sov. To heck with paying $200 more for no good reason  Grin

My guess is that the honest Minelab dealers that had units in stock that were already paid for aren't trying to make a quick $200 extra profit?

Or they weren't selling for them at the $800.00 dollar price and they no no one is going to pay a $1000.00 for them and they'll quit stocking them when they run out?

I think the problems we'll see in buying used ones are that people are going to think that there worth more now.

And a little extra money might be worth the 3 year warranty.

I think that we'll have all our answers on what's really going on by summer?
