...............Hi! Di not see any mention of my favorite Minelab........................so here is my 5 cent's worth!!...................I got the Sovereign XS for my birthday back in June of this year..........so I'm no expert ...............or professional on this machine!.....................I like it for many reasons................many of the accessories are available on the various classified forums, it can be hip/chest mounted, it is relatively easy to use, and I like detectors with an adjustable threshold control!!.............Don't really care for the silent search type detectors.............................Also although it does not  have a depth meter ..........I can tell if an object is shallow or deep by the intensity of the signal!!......................Many prefer the older Sovereign's over the newer ones such as the GT or elite........................HH..........JOE

Hey Joe,I have a old XS, got back in the 80's it's my workhorse for sure.I have it on a belt mount with a DT-1 meter on the rod,I know it better than I know my wife.To say I have a lot of good finds would be a understatement, had a GT but it sort of sucked compared to the XS.
All my hunting buds ask me ,when are going to get a new machine, and I always tell them when you show me one that finds more than my XS I'll buy it! Smiley
I'm like you , never needed a depth meter,if your going to dig the target anyway who cares if it 1 inch or 1 foot, not all old stuff is deep. It's a great machine easy to use and great depth very simple. They may be outdated but still one of the best ever made!! Detecting

.............I recently got a Sovereign Elite.................I also have a Sovereign XS..............Performance wise they are about the same!!     Convenience wise the Elite is better since the battery pack just slips in and out and if you carry a back-up battery pack it just slips in too!!...............Some complain that the knobs are in different location on the Elite than on the other Sovereign's...........but this doesn't bother me ..............I'm used to using a lot of different detectors so this is never a problem!!....................Joe

I have a Sovreign XS, would I sell it?  No no! I've had it since around 1990, it's been a great detector and I've made a lot of nice finds with it. Now I own the SE PRO and it's turning out to be a good detector as well. I will still use the XS for different hunting areas and most likely will hang on to that baby..... Keep it in the ground.....your digger that is....
hope you find some good stuff....John
