There are a lot of good machines out there but the Minelab explorer Is tough to beat, It is simply amazing what they can pull out of the ground once you learn the machine.

I had once also considered byuing an Explorer. However as it is unfortunately not as popular in Europe as in the US I haven't had the chance to try it prior to a purchase. How well does it perform at pinpointing and handle heavily mineralized soil?

regards,

Christian

hey outback!

i honestly think that any discriminating machine is great.of course those bells & whistles that come with the minelab are great-but-they really don't make for a whole lot more productivity.

i remember very well sweeping a certain area, time after time, finding many old silvers & coppers, bone dry with 200$ bounty hunter.

then purchased what i thought was better machine...found nothing more.

then purchased first minelab thought all area's would be new again including aforementioned-found nothing more-maybe quarters ect..but nothing old or deep.

they do have advantages though-learning,editing,pinpoint,go a little deeper ect..

with a thou. in your pocket one week,spend 200$ on a detector,find 100$ worth of coin...or...spend that thou.on a detector and find 120$

i don't know if i'm making any sense it's so late and i gotta go!

c-ya later bud!

Great info guys...Smiley...I started with a Garrett Treasure Ace 100 and found lots of coins including silver, I went with the Tesoro for the UW capability and the great warranty, now Kay uses my old Garrett and still finds some great things on land.

IMHO the Explorer IS the best machine out there and it will find things the cheap detectors won't.  Get a SR 5" coil, hit the good spots you know of, and run IM at -15 or -16 and listen for that high "tingle", then investigate.

Bad ground and minerals do not bother the Explorers much at all.  Just don't run the sens. too high and get a lot of falses that might confuse you.  I turn my detector volume down and NOT my headphone volume to keep the constant signals from overpowering my brain! It will still go deep even with a fairly smooth threshold.

HH
Chris
