I'VE NEVER TRIED ANYTHING LESS THAN 8" . but i'll bet that little 5"er' will pick up crazy~mad stuff. i'm going to follow thru with your much appreciated sugg. seldom do i monkey with i.m. let it ride around factory settings within 1 or 2.

might be a week or 2 till i get out there with one,but i will.hopefully won't be freezing out.

The smaller coils are dynamite for really trashy areas as they dont scan as much surface area at one time- making it easier to discriminate. I always prefer to use the smaller coils anyway.

i've always thought of those little coils as somewhat of a joke~guess the jokes on me! Grin

they seem like they would be so tedious to use(not covering much real estate)~but i can definetely see using one in a small secret honey hole that you just know some more oldies r just waitin for you! Grin

Believe me- I always try to use the smallest coil possible in any condition. I learned this from nugget hunting but applied it to coin and relic hunting as well. You'd be surprised at the results.
