This was also found at an old ranch house between Benson and St. David, AZ.  The house was dilapidated and there wasn't much left but stone foundations and old boards.  My Grandmother said her great uncle lived there after retiring from the Army, so I guess that explains why there were foreign coins on the property.

Is your family originally from that part of Arizona, or was your uncle stationed at  Fort Huachuca ?   By the way, this is another really nice looking coin.

Thanks for posting it.

Thanks.  I don't know if he was stationed at Ft Huachuca or not...I think that part of my family has lived in southern AZ for a long time, most of my Grandmother's generation were living on old ranches that were inherited and split up, and then they sold most of the land, just keeping maybe 50 acres each.  It's all been sold off now as they have all passed away.

That was a tough area to ranch, especially in the late 1800's but then a lot of the west was.  We sure have things a lot easier than our grandparents and great grandparents.
