Alfonso XIII Pesetas

(1/1)

Cyberborikua:
Got a good deal on these two Alfonso XIII Spanish Pesetas. About 6 millions were minted on the 1896 one and the second coin shows an original error. This 2nd coin presents THE SIX POINTED STAR Mint Mark and an unusual wear mark can be seen on the reverse. The coin's wear mark clearly shows not to be uniform. Experts then deduct that a protuberance on the planchet created a flawed strike on the coin that eventually wore first. What do you think?

Cool Coin for sure!

I just noticed the similarities of that coin and the US Mercury Dime.

Wow, Were we copy cats or what?

Cyberborikua:
I know, but the coolest thing is that they were all circulating coins. Spaniords never minted proofs or uncirculated coins for collection. I'm expecting new pesetas and a Spanish peso minted in Manila. Those are all rare coins now only in the hands of collectors and dealers.

Posted on: April 06, 2011, 09:43:38 PMIt attracted me the fact that Alfonso XIII was named king of Spain at birth and they even made coins with his profile when he was just a toddler. Actually, several more were minted as he grew up. I really like these coins because Alfonso XIII was a boy King when the US fought the Hispano-American war against Spain and acquired several territories from them including The Phillipines and Puerto Rico. We also liberated Cuba as well. I'm expecting other coins that were minted in Manila and am after the ones minted for Puerto Rico. The latter are really rare and thus expensive, but I know I will get them some how!  [detecting]  ;)

Not even close. That's not a column on the back of the dime.
