Great finds, mate! It's always nice to pull a few pre-decimals out of the soil. Most of Perth's older parks have either been recently re-landscaped or are off limits to detectors.

Hi GoldDigger,

I lived for 5 yrs in Perth in the late 80's  - early 90's...great city.
Its a great shame when we get excluded from city parks.
It will happen in Aus. just like it is happening elsewhere around the world.
It shows how important it is not to leave a mess of the park surface.
I recently went around after an older m.d. fixing up his very obvious, messy holes, I did not want anyone to think that that I was leaving such a mess of the park.

What about the hills, midlands or Fremantle / Rockingham ??
Good luck mate.

The problem isn't the detector users but the fact that the parks are being Heritage Listed for some odd reason. I can see the buildings being listed like the bandstand in Hyde Park or some of the early Cricket Clubs but the entire park? Seems a bit much. The verge areas are still open council land and can turn out a few pre-decimals. The outlying areas like Freo and Rockingham are subject to the same Heritage Listing problems.

I have a friend who lives in a heritage listed home and can't even detect his yard for him. They'd rather the metal stay in the ground forever it seems. During a remodel, they scrape the soil away in a lot of cases and that's more damaging than a garden trowel. They go overboard sometimes here in Oz. Know what I mean?

Yeh GoldDigger,

We have the same over the top "heritage" laws here as well.
Seems though that they can pull a nice old building down if the person / company doing it is influencial enough.

What harm is being done in the grounds ? ...none, if done properly.
One could argue that unseen / unknown metal objects in the ground don't need protection because they are not identified - just lost for a long time.

Good luck mate.

Here's a funny one for you. The local council wouldn't let me cut down two very old, termite ridden jacaranda trees which were threatening my house if they fell in a storm. Why? Because they were over 12 meters tall and protected. My tree lopper came by, pruned them to 10 meters (legal to do) and then cut them down two days later. I sleep easier knowing they won't be paying me a visit one night.
