Hi Eugene,
The coin was Charles 2nd and is dated 1660 to 1662. It was only a couple of inches down due to the fact that the field is ploughed on a regular basis. It's not worth very much, ?20 if I was lucky, AND if I wanted to sell it, which I don't Detecting

Great find - almost 350 years old. I wouldn't sell it either. Did others in the club find much? Sue

To answer Sue, well, this particular field had produced many nice finds. My club call it the Token Field as we have had quite a number of lead tokens from it. It seems that many years ago there was a toll house at one end of this field, and we think that people maybe paid the toll using these lead tokens. The field also gave up two more hammered coins on the same day as my wife found her third Guinea (last Sunday), and we all found lots of buttons some Georgian pennies and thimbles. All in all a very good day out. We are now waiting for when the farmer ploughs the field again, most likely nearly next year.
