Go Up Go Down

Hi all. I had previously reported on this find here and got a number of ideas on it, although nothing definitive. I posted the coin on other forums and one person assure that the coin in question is a French token used in slot machines during the 70's. He even claimed to have had one like it and directed me to a site wherein I could get more information, including value. Although I'm not interested in selling the piece, I'm still wishing to have more information about it. So, I'll be waiting for more responses while it seems that the mystery is close to be resolved.

I agree. The coin is unique to say the least.

I'm pretty certain its a coin not a token. It looks like a 10 Franc coin....problem is they circulated with slight differences in design for years. The one on the left of my picture is 1969 and the one on the right 1951 so yours could be quite old.

Other picture (sorry for the quality) shows a few French coins, copper, brass, silver and alloy and they did produce some nice looking coins and repeated the popular designs on different denominations.

This coin has been a mystery to many. The fact that is has two obverse may disqualify it as currency. Some has said that it was the work of a mint house apprentice, then implying that it is indeed the obverse of a French coin. To date, however, it continues to be a mystery, which I expect to decipher one of these days. Thanks for your opinion, it was much appreciated.  Detecting

I've got a 1887 or 1889 French copper coin knocking about somewhere that on condition was valued at a couple of pounds ($3/$4) but being double headed I was offered a few hundred.

Same thing happened in the U.K. last year with our twenty pence coins. Some were issued with no date. Price went through the roof !

Yes, it is absolutely true. Collectors are wiling sometimes to pay much more for this type of coins.  Great
