No, it's brass again - over steel. There are no gold plated coins to my knowledge unless fortified ones ... let's test it with your gold pen!

Don't worry about the pen. Just take it to a jeweler and you will know for sure.

by the way, are you in Germany staying with the Army?

I'm sorry but am not really knowledgebale on this item. It looks like Bronce to me. From the way it looks my guess would be about 100 - 200 years old. Have you found it detecting?

Things like that tend to be made of pewter, too. Again, you can have it tested or use the touchmarks for identification. Touchmarks are those marks you took photos of on the bottom. Every maker of renown uses touchmarks. There are books about them and most antique dealers have the books and can help you.

As to your pen, quit worrying about it. Have you ever thought of making a simple specific gravity scale. You can use a small balance and a glass of water to test for specific gravity and that will conclusively identify metals for you. Look it up on Google and there are dozens of simple specific gravity testers you can make with a few household objects.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

nice stag candle holder, looks jungendstil to me,1900-1920,as for the so called "gold coin" looks more like a horse brass, gold plated to me,the 5pfennig is brass with a rusted out iron core, common find,I tend not to dig them to much work when searching city parks, still I would get that stag checked out,It could be "wiener bronzen" well collectable pices could be worth a few hundred ?uro if real..mikek

Hi Mike, good guess! Jugendstil could be right! Also I think it is bronce from the look of the patina and the casting. Regards, Christian
