Its seems easier to find Sovereigns than half Sovereigns but this is a half.

This early Victorian coin has a beautiful shield design."Young" head coins issued 1838 to 1887. Jubilee head 1887 to 1893, and "old" head 1893 to 1901.

Can't get tired of looking at a sight like that.   Any chance you'll post a picture of the obverse?

A Sovereign is a pre-decimal British coin.   The face value was 1 pound (twenty shillings).    The half sovereign would be 1/2 pound or 10 shillings.    In terms of current value.   Sovereigns are normally approximately 91.67% gold.   Since 1816, the gold content for a sovereign has been about 0.2354 troy ounces (7.32 grams)......Add to that the collector value and you've got a rather valuable coin whether your talking sovereign or half sovereign.

Dont forget this is a gold HALF sovereign. So half the value.

I'll see if I've a reverse picture anywhere. If not I'll take one and post.

Meanwhile a few gold Sovereign's....
