Your eyes must be worse than mine. Go back to the original pictures. Check both sides and you can see marks and mineralisation stains.
With the Sovereigns which are pre cleaning you should be able to see the results of the iron or tin that's disintergrated around them.

You can recover two thousand year old gold coins as good as the day they were minted. Makes a bit of a mockery of "the halo effect is going to bring you deeper finds" claims unless you think there's always a sacrificial anode nearby.
