Took me a entire hunt to realize it wasn't working properly. I started tapping the wire and found it has a short of some kind at the connector where it meats the control unit. Has anyone every repaired a coil in this condition. I sure would like to use that coil. There just doesnt seem to be too many DIY folks available. I have read cutting a few inches off the coil wire wont effect it that much. Yes or No?

I'd like to help, JHD, but I'm no tech guy.  Homefire ought to be able to tell you what you need to know.  How about it, Homie?

Well I bought a new etrac and trying out new coils. Picked up this coil cheap so not out a lot of cash. Funny thing, I took the connector where it mounts to the control box and cleaned it up a bit. It seems to be working fine. Will know my next trip out. I hooked up my other two coils the 6 inch and 8 inch and they both got about 6 to 8 inches on a air test. My F75 gets a lot more but all coils testing the same. Homie isnt too far from me, I may come up some day and check out the rock store. Let me mention I was in the house when doing air test. I dont put much faith in air test, just lets you know what the detector sounds like. I think there was some metal stuck in the bottom of the coil and a lot of moisture damage at the connector end of the cable. Lil diet coke and bam it all new. The metal may have been picked up when I was at shop where wife worked. Its a metal shop and I used one of the rags there to clean the coil. I was very surprised a piece of metal that small would foul up the coil. I am having a hard time keeping this forum pinned so I can access it. But all good help here. My wife made a gift of the etrac as we had a small windfall. I can say I may add a large coil when I can. Stock soil too noisy to run here locally. The 8 inch and 6 inch coils are killing it. But the 8x6 sef is my next trip out. This is supposed to be the coil to have. I will say the 6 inch coiltec is a heavy bugger but does really good in the trash too. I still dont know why it was ringing up the same no matter what coin I ran across the coil but it is working now.
