-ed transformer. forgive me for dragging a not-a-metal-detector circuit to this board, but some savvy techy type can find this part much faster (and cheaper) than I.
G.D? X? homie? thanks in advance for any help.

Embarrassed garage door opener. Boss was throwing it away and it would be an upgrade for me if I can get it running.

Ok, that didn't help.    Can you post the top set of numbers on the transformer for me?   Size as well..     1x1 inches or what ever.

Any 24CT transformer will work but we'd have to ring yours out to see how to wire a replacement in. For a genuine replacement part, here is a manual. Page 40 has customer support.

Are you certain the transformer is bad? It's far more likely that one of the diodes has failed. Indications are identical. The power supply doesn't work in either case. I don't know your skill level regarding electronics so please forgive me if this is too basic.

The diodes are the black things with the silver bands on one end. You can easily test them with a multimeter if you have a soldering iron. Because they are wired across the transformer, you will read a short on them if you leave them in the circuit to test them. They will appear bad when they nay not be. To test them, lift the lead with the band on it by de-soldering it and lifting the part while leaving the back end still soldered. Do this to all four of them. Then, using your meter, test the resistance in both directions on the 20k scale. They should read nearly a short in one direction and open in the other direction. If not, replace them with 4 1N4007 diodes.

The part number on the transformer must be a house number. I read it to be 204C3137-1 and says it is a 22v center tap but those are as scarce as hen's teeth. The 24v ct is far more common. The PC mount makes a substitute nearly impossible so you can buy a 24vct model, wire it in with care, and have a repair done. You'll have to mount your external replacement part somewhere safe where it won't contact other parts. But that's only if you are sure it is bad.

Thanks guys, for going the extra mile for me. Yeah, the pic doesn't indicate like I was trying to show, but the transformer is burnt and has darkened some of the c.b. opposite.
