I think your way over your head on this one.    LOL

I think that you need to do a bit of research before you attempt to mod a coil in fact a lot of research. You are attempting to challenge the most complex part of a detector with out even knowing what the configuration of a VLF coil. My advice to you is if it works leave it alone.

All the beast
Xavier PS why would you want an oval coil for any way?

i'm working on a project using a bounty hunter and i have took the coil that was round and made it oval for my application

This begs the question of the outer shell, which you must have removed for this project. Inside the plastic case of the coil, was there any foil glued there on the top half? If so (and I believe all BH machines have this) you inadvertently eliminated the Faraday Shield, a very important and integral part of the coil in its entirety.

Is that the case? Was there foil glued inside of the outer cover of the coil?

Great ideas have their merit in being tried. Your idea kind of flopped. You may not have been aware that changing the shape of a coil changes every parameter of the coil and was the real cause of it not working. One good thing though. You must have learned something from all this.
