Hey guys,

I'm looking at building a hammerhead which I wanted to make fully water proof.
Does any one know where I can buy a range of coil shells?
The Hays Electronics was mentioned as a source in the Hammerhead pdf but the site appear to not be running.

this seems to be the only place I can find but I'd like to see if theres any other sources anyone might know of.

I'd rather not build my own vacuum moulding setup and learn the whole process just yet.

Thanks in advance Smiley

One of our users, Xavier, made his own and wrote a nice article about it here. Do a search on coil shell and see what turns up.

Actually, coil mold is the term to use. Here is the thread. Enjoy.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Last I heard of Hays was if you contacted him direct you could still get a coil case IE Body.    Geo tech posted his address some place that I can't seem to find.   It's not so hard to come up with solutions of your own.  Verious sizes of PVC pipe placed on plates of same in concentric Circles or Other.   WHere there is a will there is a way.

Hell , I've used old Bleach jugs and the bottom and top with a bit of Cement.  Ok they wasn't bullet proof but worked and coated with some Rhino Plast  lasted a few years.

If your Building the Hammer Head you can use a Mono coil.    Just build a x section middle form and twist your coil.  Once it's good and working mount it to the Frame and dip the whole thing in Bondo auto fix NO metal and file to shape.  I've never built a DD coil all have been Concentric.  All but the first worked.

Nothing wrong with that but you will need to have a cover at the bottom for two reasons one is to keep out the dust and the second is to solidify your Frisbee.

yes absolutely, i pot the coil with epoxy(just enough to hold the coil), then i glue in disk of plastic, once dry and sealed i fill with expanding foam, a small blob of epoxy fills the hole when it has all set, tough and light.
you see in the pic it looks a bit dull and scratched now after a whole summer beach detecting but no sign of falling apart.

Good plan the expanding foam makes it nice and waterproof, only disadvantage that I can see with that method is that you cant use it underwater because of it's buoyancy. If you ever make another coil like that it would be nice if you could post photos of how you do it.
