Hello pretty new at detecting... Just picked up a Yukon 77 1B. 8" loop. Previous owner had let batteries set to long. Has three 9v snap caps with tags on two. A,B. The C is on the 4AAPack not the wire/set. The Batt/chk knob has 6, A/9,B/9. So are those Voltages? The snap cap terminals on top of the 4/pack are rusted off. Shouldn't be too hard to find a new one. Was wondering more about the voltages. Seems to be in pretty good shape otherwise. Oh and the 1 or l in front of the B ... ?

IB rather than One B indicates that it is an induction balance detector.

Replace all plastic snap cap boxes from virtually any source, drop in new batteries (alkaline only or rechargables) and you should be good to go.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

There is only one snap cap box (?) would A, B, be 9v only. Also only seems to be room for one snap cap box.

This should be easy then. Since you indicate you had a battery leak and corrosion, REPLACE THE BATTERY BOX RIGHT AWAY. Don't worry about what the A, B and 9v settings do until you replace it. Also, look for an owners manual. They normally can be found here or at other forums. That will tell you what those settings actually mean.

The Detection circuit uses the box and the Audio a single 9V cell.
