Anyone know whereabouts of minelab schematics for supply rails for sovereign xs-2 pro.
Mines died of an accidental supply reversal No no!,
Protection diode bypassed and still no tone  Cry
These double sided SMD's could spend rest of year drawing it out.
Know its a tricky subject, companies got to protect thier intellectual property.

Sorry about the accident with your sovereign XS2 . Have you had any luck trying to troubleshoot with a good DVM ? I think you already know , check the voltage output of the supply regulators or if it has  switching power supply IC , if you have voltage out and no current , then you have a open circuit or open component . Look for burned out traces on the PC board , smell for something burned . Check for open transistors . A lot of things you can do in the meantime !! Its a terrible thing to happen but a great opportunity for you to have fun repairing it on your own and not have to send it to the factory .
HH......Eugene

Thanks for the goode Eugene.
Was going to send it to minelab here in Adelaide, but will persevere and get the test gear out.
i qualified as an electronics tech in the early 80's and also an electrician,
electrician pays a lot more but electronics is more my passion
sometimes the two meet power electronics and then i'm really at home.
Very disenchanting doing mundane stuff at work but then the kids have got to be fed and the mortgage paid.
i've got a scope and 3 DVM's including a good fluke still when got a circuit diagram would make job hell of lot easier.
some experience on fixing stuff like this detector feel its not going to be easier but have a go GD gave me a agood contact for repair here too so if all else fails lots of support thanks guys.
Cheers Jeff

Nothing obvious at all Eugene, no smelly, burnt track, popped or cracked components.
The circuitry doesn't appear to contain any regulator chips (no 3 legged critters with U next to them)
or any switchmode chips, just a reverse protection diode neg rail dropping 3V presently, could be due to dead circuitry?
although there could be a switchmode supply with a tiny audio sized primary centre tapped transformer with no connection to secondary, connected with a larger non heatsinked FET.
The circuit is drawing a nominal 25mA will test for supplies at IC's soon.
Will keep  Shocked for now.
Regards Jeff.

Jeff,
Just joined this forum but I have quite a bit of experience with both the Sovereign and the Sovereign XS-Pro. I also killed my supply some years ago. In the process of troubleshooting I reverse engineered a schematic for the XS-Pro. Send me your email address and I will forward to you what I have as far as schematic and repair notes for the unit. frank535@comcast.net
Jeff,
I have also uploaded my schematic to the Minelab downloads section to share with others. Not sure how long it will take to get the upload reviewed and approved.
Jeff,
U1 TL-062 was the part that died in my power supply.

Mate, if he's only got one post, anything he attached would be right on that single post. Not only that but we don't have a Mineload section with anything in it.

If he needs help, he should contact a moderator for some advice.

Thanks Frank, Great that info you provided has similar simple FET boost converter set up though has different driver arrangement.
Leads me to summize at least the FET is cactus after testing it, Drain Gate shows open with DVM.
Ordered a couple of 2SK940 equivs A$10, few days, hope this gets supply operating and nothing else is duff.
The protection diode set up is also different, mine is in series with negative rail, instead of simple crowbar protection on your diagram, yours must have a fuse in the line? Shows poor design in mine if protection doesnt work.

Regards Jeff.
Schematics look good GD.

OK Jeff,
I am assuming that the 2.5 volt reference and the op amp voltages looked ok on your machine. I don't really recall if I had a FET or op amp fail. I saw a used op amp in my Minelabs parts drawer so I was thinking maybe the op amp.

I am attaching the schematic to this reply in case anyone else is interested or wants to double check my interpretation of the XS2 power supply.

If you have issues getting any parts, let me know. I live in the San Jose / Silicon Valley area of California, pretty easy to get parts here.

Let us know if this solves your problem.  Detecting
