Hi there,
I'm trying to build a TESORO CIBOLA.
The requirements for this detector is :
TX = 0.95mH R=4.3ohm
RX = 15.8mH R= 63ohm
I have 30AWG wire and 26AWG wire.

I can get with AWG30 for RX and AWG 26 for TX:
TX= 15.7mH with 264 turns (10cm diameter)

and RX = 0.938mH with 42 turns (20cm diameter)
The BX coil will add 0.025mH to my TX coil.

I find this by calculation. The coil resistance will not be the same as required. I think TX will be about 2ohm and RX about 20ohm.

The question is simple : Can i adjust the coil resistance to fit the requirement by adding twe serials resistances to the coils ?
Is it realy necessary or not to fit exactly the resistance ?

Thanks a lot for your help

The wire guage you are using may not be the best choice.  There is a coil calculator somewhere on this forum. Do some re-calculations.  After your done you may not need resistors. Remember Tesoro search coils work on many Tesoro models. Adding resistors may reduce your search depth on targets.   Regards.........Eugene

Hi Eugene.
First, thanks a lot for your reply.
I've seen your name many times on different forum, you should be sharp on the subject.
I've tested many coil calculator but no one takes care of the coil resistance. I' ll try the THUNTING one ..
What gauge would you advise me to get 4.3ohm/0.95mH ant 63ohm/15.8mH ?
What do you think of AWG28 for TX and AWG32 for RX ?
Regards

I have a bunch of files on Tesoro coils,  I will look tonight when I get home.  Are you making DD or concentric, coplaner ??          HH.............Eugene

Hi,
I wish to make a concentric coil cause the specifications i have are for this kind of coil.
There are few think my new MD brain has bad time to understand :
FIRSTLY : Concentric an double D are phase reversed ? No ? How can they be compatible ?
SECONDLY : For CIBOLA, the coil is called SPIDER  but it's a simple concentric coil (unlike SPIDER for PI). How does the pinpointing works with this coil ? I don't have any pinpoint button on my schematic !!

I'm making a coil calculator which will give the Inductance AND the resistance. I'll share this later.

there is allot of info about coils on Geotech. i see you are a member there and been asking the same questions.
if you read the basics,it will make it easier to understand.here is the link to some of that info.

.  Make sure you wind your coils very tight, not
 loose !!  Check your inductance/ohmeter for accuracy and even check the battery.   Try 26 guage again for tx first and get that right to specs, DC and L.  Then on a separate area away from the tx winding do your 32 guage rx tight.  Make sure your winding direction and start stop are correct.  Then put inner and outer coils in place then take inductance readings again.  Then I think you will work on a bucking coil which is posted here somewhere, formula might be 25% turn ratio of the  tx .   I still can not find all my schematic and coil files yet.  Regards.............Eugene
