A hybrid is also good but I believe Xavier is up to something sneaky here. I believe he wants to be able to change frequencies on the fly using a digital tuning capacitor and his PIC chip adjusting the output impedence while adjusting his output frequency.

Angry Damn I'm busted LOL you are 110% correct GD that is exactly my intention.

I believe he just wants to have a detector that will operate at 5khz, 50khz, 300khz and any spot in between them without having to change coils or swap out detectors entirely.

I didn't know that you were a mind reader too (Better be careful from now on LOL)

Analog does save the processor some time and effort where you can use it. Your processor needs to be selected based on what other digital things it needs to do. For example, a 4 bit control on a digtal capacitor needs 5 I/O to operate. One for selecting the device and clocking in the 4 bits of control. Things like that.

Good luck with your project. For my own sanity, I am going move to Mars now.

hi GD he could use the new USB  tech. only 4 wires a+5v,input,output and aground
well it will be a great project.
but how about making it a totally new device by using capacitive sensing instead of inductive. like what they used for capacitor microphone???
