This would be awesome. Is it going to have a rechargeable battery that you can recharge in a usb or is it going to have to be hooked up contiuously to be ran?? I have said before on some other posts that the new mini computers(now only $299) would be awesome for this type application. They are only 8" wide and have a lot to off for this field.

usmcman- semper fi.  I was surfing some electronic web sites, this might work for others reading this post too, and ran across some interesting bits about building simple battery packs that can use regular batteries when the rechargable type wear out. Or you can build one that will last longer than a regular battery for the field.  On your search engine just type in how to build a battery pack, maybe.  I don't remember how I got to where I was but the how to's were simple. Even if you don't know electronics, these should be easy with whats available from Radio Shack.  And, compared to dedicated battery packs, really cheap.  For my camera a dedicated bp is about $60.  To replenish an homemade bp, under $10.  Nice.

eugene52-  Forgot to mention that there are some simple how to's on the web for making usb chargers for various items also.  Some even showeed how to make solar set ups to do the charging. Don't have the sites bookmarked but was just looking at them last week.  I think some of these might be adjusted to work on md's.

HI Eugene,
That is a great idea! My question is would it be a modifaction to a certain type of detector, or could the application be used universally? I would definatily be interested in this idea, Best Wishes,,,,Rob

Ok on the solar usb chargers, you can make one from an old broken walkway light that is solar powered. Inside these little lights is a solar charger and usually 2 AA batteries. The charger can be modified to be a usb charger or even charge 9V batteries.
