Hello , It sounds like it was smacked with a shovel !!!!  If you can Disconnect the battery and with an ohmmeter check the circuit board for shorts / opens and check resistance of the little coil . Post a circuit board picture if you can and let us know your progress  . Pin pointer probes are normally very easy to fix.
