I would like to know!  If you could extend your coil lead to do underwater detecting .?

What I am thinking is there are a few water holes not that deep maybe 12 ft that I want to probe . My plan is to use a long pole with a waterproof coil with an extended lead attatched my detector,  And if I had a response that I thought was positive I could use a dredge to suck up the mud and hopefully retrieve the booty .

Firstly would an extended lead work ?  If so what detector would be best suited and at what settings ?  What problems would I get from underwater signals and what depth would it read, also what coil is best suited ?  I have a Etrac  and a GP  Extreme do you think any of these detectors could work with thoes contitions ?

Aussie , I have used a 60Ft cable on my PI detector . Just hang it over the side of your boat . No trouble whatsoever . Use the coil that comes with the detector .  Cornelius

Being underwater did you have to use any particular settings ?

Aussie . Sea water is an exellent conductor . So your PI detector should work better in sea water than in any other place . The settings you have to work with are by trial and error . Try your settings on a known target and keep them there .   Cornelius

Hi!
Only thing I would be a little wary of is if the Minelab coil is waterproof at depth.
More pressure than you would think at 12 ft!
I'd drop Minelab an email and ask if they reckon the coils will be o.k. and what depth they think they will be o.k. to.
I quess then all you'll need are a couple of 5 pin connectors and the right cable.
The connector from the coil will obviously have to be made waterproof as that will be in the water.
It may be that Minelab might do an accessory cable?
Interesting idea b.t.w.

No, not at that kind of length.

Along this line of thought, can anyone suggest a source of the cable to make extension cables for the Explorer/E-Trac line?
