It only goes about 2"deep it only cost £5 so if it doesn't work its better to have tried  than just chuck it away and i haven't just got soldering skills i just haven't worked on detectors before I've got all the sparkys tools as well so I'm going to give it a go as soon as i get the time thanks for your input anyway  Undecided

It only goes 2 inches deep because there is something wrong with it. Your 1225x machine was built in 1987 and it sold new for $299 us dollars !!  Look for bad solder joints , and at least check it out good before you get rid of it.  Best Regards........     Eugene

Yeah i will do i don't like to chunk anything that can be repaired I'm going to clean up the board replace any solder that's broke replace any capacitors and resisters that are diffrent and see what happens the only risk is me getting a electric shock and losing a fiver(the kids spend more on sweets)and I've wanted to have a go at making a coil for a while any idea what type of coil and wire grade how many turns etc will work best ? I've downloaded a couple of plains from here  Wink

Reading that field test, it said that the fisher 1235x was top of the line and sold for $399.  A lot of money back then. The 1225x performance was just a hair better than the 1225x. I agree with you, the fisher 1225x is worth keeping !!   Regards...........Eugene
