Have you adjusted the Threshold control?

I have a Old ADS 5.5Khz that works good.    I too need a coil for it.    When I got it , it had the 14" Flying Saucer on it.

The Center of the Coil (Mounting Ears)   Ripped off.

Welcome to the forum, Montana! I love the ADS. Hope you get the bugs out. Have you tried to change the tone setting? I can't tell from what you've described whether the machine is responding to the coil at all. As Garrett says in the instructions to this machine, (paraphrasing) You MUST get the ground balance set right or all else is futile. Happy Hunting!

I suggest that you carefully open the connector and have a look at the wires. That's a weak point. If they're OK, take a pair of pliers and carefully break the seal where the wires go into the coil. Using a tiny pick, remove the compound that seals the wire and examing it for breaks. You'll have to strip some of the wire covering away to get a good look.

Not for the faint of heart, mate, but as a last resort, it could have you out there swinging in a few hours.
