Go Up Go Down

I love this machine. For over 30 years now, it has done good service and has only let me down once when the switch in the handle fell apart from overuse. I am getting ready to do major surgery on the old girl.

The wires inside are getting old and I want to replace them all. I have the ability, that is not an issue. I have the materials, that is also not an issue. I have photographs of the boards from every angle so that I can safely remove a wire and replace it in the same location precisely.

What I want is a schematic diagram of this machine just in case I do some minor damage to it in the process. This kind of major wire harness replacement can result in death to the patient and before I begin, I would really like a road map to the body in question.

Does anyone have one of these?

Was yours the ADS?

If so I have the ADS DEEPSEEKER 5.5KHz version.

May have a lot of commons.

I think the GroundHog ran at 15KHz.

The Deepseeker was a larger, scaled up version of the Groundhog ADS. The coils were not interchangeable, as I recall, having different mounts. The Groundhog had a flattened metal tang at the end of the shaft and the Deepseeker used a plastic shaft end with a wide opening.

I run an old Garrett American S3 detector.

I think it was the baby Brother to the Ground Hog.   Coil is marted "GROUNDHOG" and runs at 15KHz.

The TR section sucks but the VLF is hot as a Rocket.  Best ground balancing you have ever seen,  Finds a ear ring Back at 10"    No Nugget from it yet but I know it will find em.

I can't find the Schematic for it too.

The only schematic your going to find is Reverse Engineered.

Garrett is tight lipped when it comes the there schematics.

Geo Tech has some good stuff on some of there patents but not the same.

Those old Garretts had only one flaw. They were too heavy and your arm got tired after a couple of hours.

As to the schematics, years ago I came across some at a flea market for the Deepseeker. They were from the estate of a guy who used to do Garrett's repairs in Arizona, I think it was. The seller didn't have but one sheet of the 4 described in the bottom corner so I gave it a miss. Since then I have been hoping that the model, being discontinued years ago, might have a few ex-repair types willing to scan the schematics. One never knows. Garrett is indeed tight lipped. They still offer factory service on them. Reasonable prices, too, but my unit works fine at the moment.

As I said earlier, I just want to replace the wires which are going to have insulation problems when the old plastic coating starts wearing out. The schematic is for that "just in case" scenario.

Yep!   Garrett is tight!

I'll keep looking but don't hold yer breath.

I'm thinking they have base there VLF detectors on that old Tech and if you think about it , Nothing is any better.

The only ones that have as good or better is Tesoro and you can't find those schematic too.

Seems I'm looking for similar technical information - if you should come across anything that specifies what the 4 pins connect to, or the voltage levels on them, can you pass that on?

Cheers,

Most certainly, Paul, but if you check here regularly, you will see things as quickly as I do.

Thanks  Smiley So far I'm checking, but I'm not finding... Sad

I'm fairly confident that two of the pins have to be for the receive circuit... and it would make most sense if the other two were for the transmit circuit... rather than a power supply for an oscillator which is contained in the search head and drives the transmit circuit... but none of the permutations I've tried around these theories have given me anything that works so far.

Any and all clues greatly appreciated...
