What Ground Hog are you talking about?   Three detectors had the Ground Hog coil.   A photo would be good?   My bet is it's the output transistor.   They GO FOOOOOF if the head phones short out.

Well one things for sure the problem is on the audio output, could even be a broken wire, just open it up and have a look the problem may just a very simple one to fix.

Agreed. Audio output circuitry defective, probably a transistor or some broken connection. That's where I,d start looking. Send pics.

I've had to replace the audio output transistor of two Garrett detectors.    The ADS and the S3 Detectors.

Check the MPS-U45 output to audio.

I see what looks to be a transformer type symbol for the tx coil, can someone explain. I've seen this symbol on some older schematics instead ofthe regular inducter symbol.

Huh?     I see what looks like a Impedance Matching Transformer on the RX coil.

Yes on the Rx coil sorry. An impededence matching transformer, of course. It matches the impedance of the coil to the input impedance of the Rx circuit. Don't think I'll be trying to build one of these schematics.

 Hi,
I am in the process checking over the circuit of a non working Garrett coin hunter and would like to check the transistor on mine. Mine is marked NSDU45, I'm assuming that it is for the audio. Please, using a digital meter, is there any way to test it, thanks for any help

Regards David

The same one I was talking about .  Just Replace it.  It's a Darlington and they toaste most easy.    Looking for the Original there most dear in price.  I used a   CEN-U45.  Cost two for a dollar!

Someone was looking for $45.00 for the Original.  LOL

Look around and you can have them for way less.
