Go Up Go Down

Ok, so I went to the park this morning for a quick hunt found some clad and a cast metal cat. A little bit later I used it to find a manhole cover under the dirt, It worked perfectly normal. This afternoon I tried to hit a new park and the ground balance was acting like I was sitting on metal everywhere. I thought it might just be bad soil so I set it manually to get rid of my ground error bars, it came out at 14. I thought that was weird, but then I didnt find a single target, not even a crusty zincoln. I thought it was just that park, however when I got home I tried it again and have the same trouble.
It does still detect metal it just has to be big ( like my steel toe boots) to register. The ground balance still acts like it is over metal all the time. I cant think of any reason it went bonkers, it wasnt dropped, I drove down a gravel road but cant imagine that the minor bumps from that would have affected it so severely? I changed the battery, then started testing the coil, Im not too up on dd coils internals, but I have two pins with no connection to any other pins, on pin 1 I get 140k ohms to pins 3 or 4, between 3 and 4 is 3 ohms i have no connection on 2 or 5, I cant seem to find my lcr meter at this second but is it normal for the coil to only use 3 pins? or do I have a bad connection to the coil? Im totally bummed out, but I guess it might be a good excuse to buy the 5"

Emmmmmmmm.

Some coils do in fact use a common wire with the shield for the transmit and receive.

I don't think yours does.

I don't know that machine .

There could be a Capacitor in the coil that is not letting you check it as well.

When you use your meter reverse the leads and see if you see a Tick motion or momentary reading of any kind.

That may be the case.

Sounds like it needs a trip to Texas to me.

From the info Dave gave me pins 1 and 2 are the receiver coil, 3 and 4 are the transmit coil and 5 is the shield, I seem to have an open in number 2, after I get done workin today I will open up the connector and hopefully the wire has broken off inside, otherwise its off to the factory.

Got done working this morning, opened up the connector and YES OH YES I see a broken wire........Number 2 was broken at the end of the solder joint. Spent five minutes sharpening up the iron and re tinning it and about 3 seconds to resolder the wire..... and it works again YEAH!! Such a relief, it works just like it did before. Thanks Hommie, and also a big thanks to Dave J for the quick response.
