Roger that I will file it for future use.  So in the interim since my last post I opened up the 8" coil, very eenterissstinnng.  by the picture below you can see the coils are wound on spools that are then placed in the shell.  Even more interesting is that the Rx coil spoon has 2 levels with the bucking coil on top of the Rx coil and there is a .33 uF cap across the Tx coil.  So now I guess I get to put it back together, I'll have to go down to the hardware store and hope they have some MEK to make up a good glue to hold things together and then give it a good coat of Plasti-Dip to moisture proof it.

There appears to be some active components in the coil body. It may not be so easy to make a match that is smaller. At this point, all bets are off.

GD the only other component is that one cap, everything else is coil.

Kabier2 this a commercial coil I didn't make it, I measured the coil and
below is about as close as I could come using Gary's coil calculator.

Could be that the cap is only there to correct the frequency. I do that with some coils
