I have an old Radio Shack detector I'd like to build a bigger coil(4") and bump up the voltage(9v) .

Any suggestions?

There is no model on it.
Just says "Radio Shack" at the top of the meter and "DISCRIMINATOR RETECTOR" below.
Not yelling it is written in capitals
Also it has a telescoping shaft

Can't find a schematic for it.

My kid has one.

You may be able to monkey with the tx oscillator out put a little.

To the most part , it is what it is!

Hello big mt bucket and everyone !! The first main problem is the search coils are made with very poor quality on the cheap Radio Shack and Famous Trail models . After you find out the correct model number , then you will now be able to find out the exact frequency . If it is 6.99 or 15 khz , then if it is the 6.99 khz you can use a Bounty Hunter 8 or 10 inch coil . If it is a 15 Khz then you need to wind your own search coil . So what you need to do is find an identical photo of your model on the internet , and post it here .Then step 2 is measure your coils resistance at the connector with an ohmeter , your 2 pins of the tx and the 2 pins of the rx and post it here . Then we can all proceed with the coil improovements and then tell you how to increase the tx power at the oscillator transistor .

Regards.............Eugene52

Got one of those setting in a box somewhere, coils bad. I can show you what the inside of a coil looks like? Anyway, its a 3005, is that the 15k or the smaller hrz? If you need some pictures of the detector if your not able to post any.
