I cannot stress enough that homefire's comment about using Baking Soda (and a little water to make a paste) to clean up the acid deposits (white powder) left over from the battery leakage, is important.  If you do not clean this up, you are just asking for more problems in the future.  Try not to get any on your clothes, I have in the past and mysterious holes resulted after washing.
Then you can either use a damp rag or alcohol swabs to clean up afterwards.  Let dry, perform your repairs and you should be hunting in no time.
Happy Hunting, Robroy59
