Sadly, Compass went out of business a couple of years ago and schematics are very hard to find.
Can you describe the problem? There are a good many technical people here who might be able to help.

Yes I know they are gone.
Well my problem began with losing external speaker function. Decided to look inside found burnt R83 on board replaced it and still had nothing headphones worked. checked speaker with another source it works soldered it back and then R83 started getting hot again even with speaker and headphons unplugged at board. Looked at Cap near R38 in circuit? may been bad decided to replace it removed it and R83 stopped heating but now get Max on needle and no response to buttons or headphone anything even with new cap removed. Don't see any visible causes and not a electrician so need schematic may help track problem testing.

It does sound as if you need a technician for this one. The last problem we discussed here turned out to be mechanical in the form of a cracked potentiometer but this sounds like a bad transistor on the audio output section. You said the headphones worked. Does that mean the detector is usable with headphones and you want to fix the speaker section or were you indicating that they tested good?

Being a older machine I'm betting you have a Electrolytic Cap associated with that Resistor and Transistor it serves.
It may have dried out and shorted.
You may want to call this guy! He works on old machines.

The headphones were working before but now nothing. If it is the transistor I may try it too but don't know its value. Either way I don't see why that would max out the needle reading with nothing attached? Thank you for any assistance... Always worth a shot before taking a hit on repairs.

Yes Thank you I was on there first and thats where I got a few tips.
I did see the Texas repair guy and I was worried to send it reading his repair costs and only fourteen days to pay issue . I dont mind getting it repaired but at what cost. Im in the midwest Chicago so ... Thank you for the tips

The meter may be a function of the audio circuit. Also, when you replaced the cap, if it is electrolytic or tantalum, it is polarized. Be sure you don't have it in backwards. The transistor should have markings on it. Again, orientation is crucial for some components. If you do try to replace the output transistor, be sure to get it in right. And check the capacitor again.

Oh yes definitely I will check it all closely I may flip the Cap but mark on side was how I had put in this one same way Even with cap out have same issue MAX needle so not sure at this point what happened. Going to call repair centers soon.

One last suggestion here before you give up. Take a few good, clear close up photos of the area where the resistor burned up and post them here. Try and get a couple of angles that show component values and any other relevant markings. What's relevant? Well, if anyone has questions be ready to add another photo.
This may seem like a bit of work but if anyone comes up with a solution, you can smile about the repair fee you saved. If not, you only lost a couple of days. It's all good, mate.
