Not so sure the Garrett coils will do the job.  Were did you hear that ?
Looking for some info on them.  If they don't have passive components within I guess they would work, eaaa?
What Coils do you have?  The ol 15Khz Ground Hog coplanar?

I happen to have one here.  Let me try to measure inductance on the thing.

Back in a Few.

Emmm

My 15Khz Ground Hog coil is showing :

Pin 1 and 4  1 being shield       2.9 mH    11.4 Ohms  Tx Coil

Pin 2 and 3                           16.5 mH   43.7 Ohms  Rx Coil

TGSL calls for:

Tx       6mH    18-25 Ohms

Rx       6.5mH   18-25 Ohms

Not even close.

LOL No.  The original Tesoro coils could be used if you can find one.

This detector is Coil Dependent to determine the operating Frequency.  I would think you would be able to use most any coil with Similar specs.

DeepTech Vista Smart.............15.5 kHz
Golden Sabre Plus .................. 15 kHz
Golden Sabre Plus .................. 15 kHz
Tesoro Tejon..............................17.2 to 17.6 kHz
Tesoro Tiger Shark...................12.5 kHz
Tesoro Vaquero........................14.3 kHz, 14.5 kHz, 14.7 kHz
Tesoro Lobo...............................17.5 kHz

Go Up Go Down

I ordered two of the TGSL PCB's from Silverdog about 3 months ago.  I ordered parts separately.
My intention was to double the freq and use one as a Gold machine.  Too many Irons in the fire to build a coil for that right now.

I can assemble the board as per the TGSL 101 document if you wish.  There is no Aligning to be done on the thing. As to say no Preset Pots or the like.
Without a coil All I could do would be insure all Voltage supplies are True and Working.

At best I could inject a test signal in the front end (Simulate Tx Signal and Rx signal )  and check the following sections on a O Scope to see how they
compare findings to the TGSL 101 Document.

You pay Shipping both ways and $20.00 .

I can assemble it as stated above and Return.  I will assemble it just as if it were My Own Project  and just as my own it comes with NO Guarantee or Warranty.

If you should happen to send some Goodies along with it that would be cool too.

Some of my work.

Homefire.
