Howdy all,
I was out detecting the other day, and my MXT suddenly went dead. I tried turning it back on, and noticed there was a bit more then normal friction in the knob when I tried turning it back on. When I got home, I opened up the case, examined the rheostat.  The point where it turns on and off was "moving around". I also noticed a spark as I tried to turn it off and on, so out came the batteries. The rheostat was marked B100k with 6 pins. This should be a fairly easy swap?? Just replace with the same one, I think? Does anyone have a good source for high quality rheostats? Should I watch for any unseen problems, or is it a straight forward project. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!
Gutstring

Hello Gutstring.

I have my broke Whites MXT 300 taken apart and if its the same as yours there are 5 wires to two connectors, the top 2 wires are green [on-off] and bottom 3 other wires are black, brown , red to connector [Gain]. Mouser may have it in stock. Possibly Digikey may have it too. I tried to post a picture from my phone but did not go through here. I have been working out of town so I will post a picture when i get home. Its not a multi turn but a single turn potentiometer . Should be a common and inexpensive part. Check Mouser or Digikey or even Jameco electronics. Since I heard Whites Electronics may be shut down now, you may have to fix it yourself which would be no problem , since you have help here on the Great "Thunting.com"  !!!!

I will post more info in a few days.

Please Stay Safe and Best Regards.............Eugene

Thanks for the help. I figure I'll do the repair. So it's pretty much a straight forward swap. I'll get a pic tomorrow and post of the part.  Thanks for the quick response. I'm looking forward to learning from all the large amounts of knowledge here and hopefully give a little back ( if possible). I'm going to locate the potentiometer, I'll check those places Eugene.

Best Regards and Everyone Please Stay Safe .
